1. Spyder 4 Elite Software Update

If the Colormunki Display has the feature to measure the white luminance of the monitor via a real time readout from the puck/sensor. Then I'd be tempted to buy that over the Spyder4 Pro.Browsing some reviews, it looks like it does.The S4 Pro does not/cannot use the puck/sensor to measure white luminance inreal time. It will only report the luminance value at the end of the calibration (I'm assuming its' software operates like the Spyder3's). If you get a value that you don't want, you have to tweak your monitor and then re-do the calibration to get an update on the luminance value.The S4 Elite has the real time luminance measurement feature.As as dissatisfied user of an i1 Display 2 and quite frankly, still slightly PO'd from my one attempt to get customer support from X-Rite, and as a former user of a Spyder2 Pro (equiv to a S3/4 Elite) I'm leaning to move away from X-Rite and back to Datacolor products.-Newsy. To help clarify to function of the Spyder4Pro luminance calibration.The Spyder4Pro can calibrate to a specific target luminance in two ways(both of which will give you the current luminance reading/measurement durring the process), either by using the target brightness preset, such as the LCD preset for a Dell U2412M. So using the LCD preset the software will calibrate the display to a luminance level of 120cm^2.The other way would be when calibrating to use the Ambient Light feature, in which the software will calibrate the display to a specific/optimal target luminance based on measurement taken of your work space's/room ambient light level. So in this case the target brightness for calibration will depend on how dim or bright the lighting conditions in your environment are.Cheers.

Ben, when is Datacolor going to post the Spyder4 User Guides?As to your post, I don't understand what you're trying to advise on and I have yet to find a video that shows the process as you mention.' 'My understanding of the Pro software is that there is no means to key in a target white luminance value as part if the calibration process such as you have in the Elite software. With the Pro it is a passive process where you adjust the monitor and wait until later for the digital value to be presented in the calibration summary.I'd sure like to get this clarified as I don't want to lead people astray.-Newsy.

Hi Again,Figured it out.This shot shows one of the initial screens where you establish the settings. For me it allows me to pick a lower than recommended (Based on ambient light measurement) because I had a previous calibration that finished with the lower value (107).This shot shows the process after the initial measurements. Note that it shows color temperature and measured luminance. It measured 104.7 so I would tweak the brightness and click 'Update' until I get it where I want. When you get to what you want click 'Continue'. In this case I'm ignoring the recommended luminance of 180.HTH,Bob Schoner.

This is different I think than what the Spyder3 Pro users had. Very nice.Thank you for posting!So versus the S4 Elite, with the S4 Pro you are not going to get some of the extra analysis functions or the ability to target a black point but the Pro will handle dual monitors and it does give you an active reading (with a refresh click) of white luminance using the puck sensor prior to the software creating the ICC profile.That is a big time saver and good news for people who feel the Express is too minimal but don't want to spend the $$$ on the Elite. Very nice.Don't know about the Spyder3 but I could do it with the Spyder2 Pro.Yes, but in its day, the Spyder2 Pro was the top model, equivalent to the Elite level available now. The S2 Pro has a dedicated screen for setting white & black luminance. There was not a Spyder 2Elite.When the Spyder 3's were introduced, Datacolor decided to have three levels of product to offer and the Spyder 3 Pro was somewhat crippled, software wise, as compared to the Spyder 2 Pro. I don't see one difference on screens for elite version of spyder 3 and version 4.02 of software to what is shown in above screen shots.maybe i am missing something but i just recalibrate to see it and i see exact same screens.i always used ambient light measurement recommendation since i switched from i1Display2 to spyder3 elite with upgraded software.

And was shown to go from 6500 to 5800 and what do ya know soft proofing now matched with canon printed and their photo paper pro glossy.the ambient light measurement for setting monitor made the biggest difference in my mind/eyes.-D700 paired with 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200vr f2.8 along with an SB900 to brighten things up a bit. I have both the ColorMunki Display and the Spyder3 calibrators.

They both seem to work well and I am especially happy with the calibration and real-time adjustments of the ColorMunki. The software was pretty easy to use and the calibration has delivered great results on my Dell U2711 display.But the current ColorMunki Display software (1.0.2) has MASSIVE MEMORY LEAKs.

Right now, after about a week of uptime on my Windows 7 computer, the ColorMunkiDisplayTray.exe program is consuming 574 MB of commited memory. If I reboot the system this app will be using about 10 MB which grows and grows.For the life of me, I can't figure out how to contact the support / development team from their awful website.

Please fix you software folks!!!So go buy the Spyder4. If ColorMunki ever fixes their app I might suggest that one. Spyder 4 Elite Software Update

Currently it's showing Working Set 10M, Peak 28.5M, Commit size 19M - having run for several days. This is W7 64-bit with 12G memory. I'll keep my eye on it and see if it grows after a longer up-time.-Simon.
