Windows Server 2008 Adprep Download Music
I currently have two DC's and both are WinServer 2003 (latest SP) and I just recently built a new WinServer 2008 R2 that I want to take over the DC roles of the PDC due to resources/age/etc.I installed the AD Services binaries on the Win2008 server and then ran dcpromo but I got a message telling me to run adprep first. I read all that I could on the adprep subject, downloaded the correct 32 bit version of it and ran adprep /forestprep successfully. Then I ran adprep /domainprep successfully. Then I ran adprep /domainprep /gpprep successfully. I then ran netdom query fsmo and confirmed there were no issues with the DC's. I forced a AD replication and confirmed everything else.When I run the adprep command it says it has already been run before successfully and that it didnt need to run it again.I go back to my new server and run dcpromo and the same thing pops up.Any advice?
Yup it registered in another DNS.10.0.0.61was that in the ipconfig list anymore on the apps1 server?if not I'd check the old dns.easy quick fix on the laptop hosts file edit. You said you downloaded it?You can put the DVD in your 2003 Schema Master and run adprep32 /forestprep that way, or you can copy the adprep folder on the R2 DVD to the Schema Master and run it from there. You will also have to run adprep32 /domainprep on the Infrastructure Master. Yes I have run it on the Schema Master. Microsoft has a link from technet to a download of adprep.exe which comes with the both 32-bit/64-bit/IA versions and you extract it to the root of C: and then through cmd prompt run adprep /forestprepI type adprep /forestprep and it comes up with a message saying to make sure your Windows 2000 DC's are all at least SP2, blah blah blah. Then it says If all your Windows 2000 DC's are up to SP2 type C and press ENTER to continue.

The message should have said at least Windows 2000 SP4 to run ADPREPI'm not sure where you got ADPREP from, but the version you want to run for Windows Server 2008 R2 is on the CD in the support folder. My understanding was that I needed to run Adprep.exe 32-bit version on the Schema Master in order to prepare the domain/forest for a Windows Server 2008 R2 DC to work. I only have two DC's in my whole domain, both are running Windows Server 2003 Standard.
So I went to each of the DC's and attempted to run the 32-bit version of adprep from the link that i posted.What you're saying is that I need to go into the server room, plug in my USB cd/rom to the Windows Server 2003 Schema Master DC and pop in the Windows Server 2008 R2 DVD and then run the 32-bit version of adprep from there. The adprep on the R2 disc is the newest version of adprep that takes care of updating your schema to the new R2 version. I really appreciate all the assistance on this.

I came in this morning and plugged in a USB cd/rom and the Server 2008 disk and ran the appropriate adprep32 functions and successfully prepped the forest/domain/GPO's for a Server 2008 DC.I ran dcpromo and made my new server a DC and successfully configured DNS/DHCP and IIS with no problems. I then installed RRAS and during the configuration of the role I was almost done when I lost my RDP connection to the server. I tried and tried and never got reconnected. I went into the server room and got on the server and now the network connection is completely down, it will connect to the network nor the internet. I have enabled/disabled, went from static to DHCP, ran diagnosis and nothing.

I figure it had to be the install of RRAS because nothing else was wrong until i installed that.so i uninstalled and rebooted and still no network access. I then uninstalled in order DHCP/DNS/IIS successfully, but still no network access.
I then tried to run dcpromo to uninstall AD services but because it doesn't have a network connection it cant see the domain to let me uninstall. Anyone have any clue what this is? I have also released/renew the IP and cleared the DNS cache.
Thank you that actually worked. I feel stupid because I did uninstall/remove the RRAS role and rebooted to complete removal, however the RRAS service was still there and running when i checked in Services. So after stopping the RRAS service the internet connection came back up, however there is something really off with the DNS and IP info.It wouldn't let me RDP into it by its DNS name, so I used the IP instead and got in, however when I ping the DNS name it replies back with a strange answer that looks like thisReply from fe80::f84e:da95:4d3v:18a4%12: time.
